Procin^®

Procin^®, CanBiocin's animal health product is also based on LAB that are naturally found in the intestinal tract of animals.
The LAB are genetically-modified to target specific pathogens of the gastrointestinal tract, such as E. coli.
Procin^® has been developed to aid in the prevention of E. coli scours in pigs. Future products will target other gastrointestinal conditions caused by bacteria that result in an economic loss to agriculture.

The public health benefit is that Procin will be marketed as an alternative to subtherapeutic (prophylactic) antibiotic use in animal husbandry. The development of antibiotic resistance is a growing public health concern and the market for alternatives is promising.
